The upcoming first workshop of AAAL will be held at Humboldt University of Berlin from June 26-28, 2025

The theme of the first workshop is on Argument/oblique alternations and variation. This meeting sets the stage for the network from a typological perspective, as it provides an overview of the morphological, syntactic, semantic, and pragmatic variation in argument/oblique alternations within applicative and lexical ditransitive constructions across the languages represented in the network. We especially focus on the interaction of available lexical and morphosyntactic alternatives in a given language. Based on the presented data, we identify cross-linguistic tendencies that will be further (jointly) examined at the second meeting of WP1 and prepare the questionnaire on argument/oblique alternations for a more systematic cross-linguistic investigation.

Our two invited speakers are:
Fernando Zúñiga (University of Bern)
Peter Arkadiev (University of Potsdam)
